The book is, Old Style Spiritual Cleansings by Momma Starr.
Let me ask you a couple of questions. Would you go a week, a month, a year, multiple years, without bathing/showering? If not, then why would you go that time without doing spiritual cleansings? Because just like a person with poor hygiene can offend people with their b.o., people who do not take care of themselves offend people who are sensitive. Trust me, as a sensitive person I can tell if someone is walking around with a lot of junk they need to get off of them.
I think many people don't realize how important spiritual cleansings are. As a conjure worker I see countless cases of people with problems that could have been lessened or nipped in the bud if the person would have just taken care of it with routine spiritual cleansings.
In this book Momma Starr delves into the importance of spiritual cleansings and how to perform them. What is so wonderful about this book is that Momma Starr shows that spiritual cleansing are not just baths. Sure, everyone knows about spiritual baths. Spiritual baths are a mainstay in the work but they are not the only method of spiritual cleansing. Momma Starr covers many wonderful ways in which one can perform. I for one am partial to the candle cleansings because when you do one you just know if it's stuck or not because you can feel the candle pull it off. But there are countless more ways than even the candle method. In fact, I think Momma Starr mentions just about every method possible, save for a few such as bathing in natural bodies of water, rub down with fresh sprigs of herbs or plants, the use of a brush, the blowing of smoke (smoking a client), or the use of lighted candles (lighted and then passed over the body), but I think most of these come from other traditions but they can still be used in spiritual cleansings.
Included in the book is a very special treat, how Momma Starr performs a cleansing on clients, both in person and long distance. That alone is worth the price of the book. I'm going to have to talk to her about that because she is writing about something that I know from personal experience save that no rope was involved but a cross was drawn on the ground with chalk (you will need to read the book to understand).
On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest, I give this book a 9. It's a must read for those interested in hoodoo/rootwork/conjure and especially for new professional workers. It would make a wonderful addition to your conjure library.
