To The Half-Twit, Wannabe "Witch" Who Keeps Emailing Me

Sweetie, I told you several times to stop emailing me. You are a deluded half-twit who doesn't have a clue what you are talking about. All you do is spout off the lies that you've bought into. Your entire idea of what witchcraft and witches are is horrible misconstrued. Your knowledge of history and religion is obscenely terrible. You need to educate yourself

As far as your claims that Native Americans don't believe in witches and don't have words for "witch", you fucking make me laugh. I'm part Native American. The majority of tribes not only have a word for witch but tend to have multiple words for witch as well! There's the human witch variety and then there's the spirit witches. I've blogged on several of them! You will find entries on Skin Walker, Raven Mocker, Stikini, and several others on my blog. I even live in a state where we have a huge population of Native Americans and on top of that we have a location that is well known as being a meeting ground for these witches; more specifically the stikini type. Your denial that Native Americans killed witches is also hilarious. You don't have a clue.

Also, if your grandmother actually used "black magic" to kill people who didn't deserve to die, then yes she would be a real witch. That's what they do. However, doing your b.s. reiki new age crap doesn't make you a witch. You are definitely not my elder.

Finally, you have a schizophrenic take by bragging about how your alleged family made money via acting as professional witches yet you sit there in condemnation of anyone who takes on paying clients. Makes no sense.

I told you several times to stop emailing me. Bugger off.

Book Review: The Witches' Book Of The Dead

The book is, The Witches' Book Of The Dead by Christian Day.

Let me tell you that I began reading this book with poor expectations. I will be honest and say that I'm not a fan of the Salem witch crowd. I generally find them pretentious with their black capes, their heavy eyeliner, and their obsession with "ooga booga". However, I gave the book a chance and I was pleased that I did.

The book pretty much covers all aspects of working with the spirits of the dead. Included is a brief history of "necromancy" and how ancient witches practiced their craft. Keep in mind that this history is not the pseudo history pushed by Wiccans, but of documented accounts of witchcraft of the ancient past.

The "good" of the book is that Day did a lot of research as well as avoided the Wiccan traps. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the part where Day explains that Wicca was created from a mixture of Freemasonry,  Ceremonial Magic, and the teachings of Aleister Crowley. It was like, "Day had read my mind!".  I was so overjoyed that he didn't spread the nonsense of "the old religion". However, I do have some criticism of the book. I will list the criticisms below.

1.) The notion that serious witches should have a real human skull.

I personally have nothing against people owning human bones. It's perfectly legal to own human bones, as long as you didn't either kill someone to get them or desecrate a grave! In the past it was very common for people to have a skull or other human bones in their homes. For example, most doctors in the past  had human bones in their homes. Then there was those who owned human bones for the "ooga booga" factor. They might keep a skull on a shelf and take it down from time to time to impress or scare locals. So the owning of human bones was pretty much just accepted back in the day. Fast-forward past the "Satanic Panic" of the 1980s and conditions have changed. In today's society the owning of human bones is not looked on too favorably. Owning a human bone or skull may cause people unwanted attention from locals or the law. As far as working with he spirits goes, if you are going to own a human skull then you need to work with that spirit. Also keep in mind that most human bones and skull for purchase today do not come from people who have donated their bodies to science. Instead, they come from other countries where the governments have decided to dig up graves and sell the remains without even the permission of family members. So if you are going to purchase a human skull then you run the risk of inviting a mightily pissed off spirit into your home and life. Be warned. Christian Day does state that you can use a plastic or resin skull instead. I would recommend that option. Around Halloween time you should be able to find really cool decorative skulls for such use.

2.) The notion that spirits will do whatever we command them to do.

A big issue I have with the book is that Christian Day performs rituals and magic with the assumption that the dead will obey his commands. The spirits are not slaves. Don't ever assume that the spirits will do what you want them to do and that they will come and obey you at your every beck and call.

3.) The notion that spirits love the same things over and over, such as honey and black beans, and like to be served in a metal cauldron.

I do not agree with the offerings Christian Day gives the dead and of the manner he does so. Then again, I'm not a witch. I'm a conjure worker and as far as I'm concerned you don't give the dead the same old stuff like honey and black beans. Try feeding that to a living person and see how long it takes for them to get tired of that. Also, try feeding someone by dumping the items in a metal cauldron. You might as well be dumping it a dog food bowl. I understand where Day gets this notion, from the Romans who threw black beans at the dead in order to get them to depart, but the the Roman empire is no more. I can only speak for myself but I offer the dead either what I know they enjoyed in life, what I know that most people enjoy, or I let them tell me what they want. It's not hard people! Everyone likes sweets. If the spirit drank and smoked while alive, they will love an offering of alcohol or a cigar or cigarette. The spirits of children love toys and candy. People are making it far too complicated when it's really simple. Just treat the spirits like they are still alive and you will do fine.

4.) The notion that the spirits of the dead love or need blood.

The instructions on how to offer blood to the spirits really bothered me. I understand where Day got this information from, the accounts of the Greeks who made animal sacrifices to the spirits. However, I think it's very dangerous and even downright stupid to offer blood to the spirits. Remember the rule of thumb, treat the dead in the same way you would if they were still living. Would you go run up to dear old grandma and kiss her, hug her, and then drip blood from your finger into her mouth? I don't think so! The dead do not need or even want your blood. However, dark spirits and evil entities love it!

5.) The magic is repetitive.

I used to joke about Wiccan magic. For example, "For protection, take rue, cloves, and rose petals....., For love, take rose petals, rue, and cloves.....For money, take cloves, rose petals, and rue.....". Repetition gets stale very quick. My best guess is that the people who give out the repetitive type of magic tend to be people who just made up their own things rather than were actually trained or taught in an actual tradition. The magic in the book is repetitive and a little boring.

6.) Ghost-Hunting

The section and material on ghost hunting seemed out of place. Ghost hunting truly has nothing to do with witchcraft. I think it would have been better if Christian Day simply took that material out and then perhaps wrote another book solely on ghost hunting.

In addition to the criticisms numbered above I have some other minor criticisms that I do not hold to the same level as the ones I listed above. I realize these are minor. The first is that there are 5 pages of "glowing reviews" at the beginning of the book. That's way too much. For a second I almost thought about not reading it because it came across as being  ego maniacal.  Three, four or even five reviews would have been enough. The second is the inclusion of material from Lori Bruno. I think Lori Bruno is a very nice person. However, the information she presents is of the standard Wiccan pseudo history and is quite simply, untrue. The inclusion of her material weakens the book and it also is highly repetitive, especially her magic. The last minor criticism I have is that some of the information listed in the section on the deities of the dead is incorrect. Some of the deities listed in that section have no association with death or spirits.

As a whole I enjoyed the book and I would recommend reading it to those who are interested. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest, I give the book an 8.
