There's really only 4 ways in which people get crossed up, a.k.a. jinxed, hexed, cursed, etc. Those ways are:
1.) A worker does it to them. It could be either justified or unjustified, meaning that it could be either done in retaliation from some evil the person did to them or it could be an attack on someone who is innocent. Listen to me good. Most of the time when a worker crosses another person it's going to be justified. Attacks on innocent people do occur but workers know full and well that not everyone who is crossed up is innocent! If you start questioning people who are crossed up they will admit stuff like, "Oh, I stole her husband", "I robbed him of his life-savings", "I helped run him off his job", etc. So it is very common for almost everybody who is crossed-up to claim innocence but we workers know that most of them are not and got what they deserved. That doesn't mean we won't help them.
2.) The person gets hit in the crossfire. The person is at the wrong place, and the wrong time, and in the presence of the wrong person and ends up getting hit and crossed up by accident. This happens quite frequently. People routinely walk in stuff meant for someone else and then it gets them too. Another method that I've heard from people is when someone is out walking with a person and a worker goes by them and throws something at the back of the person they are trying to get and it ends up getting on the other person too. Another example would be like say at work and somebody puts something down in your chair meant for you but you didn't come in that day and somebody else used your chair or sat at your desk and then they got it instead. So getting hit in the crossfire is quite common in hoodoo.
3.) People do it to themselves. New practitioners who dont' know what they are doing can easily cross themselves up and especially if they want to go around hot footin' or crossing at the drop of a hat. People can also jinx themselves with negative talk and with intense fear or anxiety. A lot of it is psychological. Now remember, most jinxes involve words, which is why kids yell out "jinx!" at sports game. I call it, "bad words that stick to you". People routinely jinx themselves with negative self-talk such as, "I'll never lose weight", "I'm ugly", "I will never succeed". Yeah, dummies! You won't as long as you want to wallow in self pity and train yourself to be that way. Stop jinxing yourself. Stop doing the negative self-talk. Catch yourself and then counter it with positive self-talk. See also: Jinx
4.) The last way to get crossed-up is to be born that way via a generational curse. I won't get into great detail now but cursing an entire family's bloodline is possible and it's in the bible. Generally this happens when someone in the family does something unspeakable with regards to evil and the curse is placed on the entire family instead of just the guilty party in order to cause maximum damage. Generational curses can also be caused by God.

Well, it may be true with a worker (a hoodoo man), but unfortunately there are a numerical majority in the world, and perhaps neither in the United States. In fact, most practitioners of magic are mercenaries, simply pay the agreed price to be willing to do anything.
Sorry, I should say they do not majority in the world
@ Anonymous,
You are right about that. I know of people who will do ANYTHING as long as the price is good.
I think there is another way to be crossed and that is to be crossed by a spirit, whether for any reason, without necessarily having been sent by someone.
