The Hoodoo Truth: Circles In Hoodoo
In Hoodoo we don't really cast circles the way Ceremonial Magicians or Wiccans do. Instead we incorporate circles to make our workings more powerful. One of the ways this can be accomplished is to sprinkle various powders around a candle in a circle. The powders can be sprinkled clockwise or counter-clockwise depending on the intention. Another method that can be used is to burn candles in a circle or burn smaller candles around a larger candle. Often, many people who burn 7 day candles will dress the rim of the glass with condition oils and this too is a form of working with circles. Hoodoos also like to use a lot of bowls in their workings, like say a bowl with a candle burning in the center and various items or substances placed around the base of the candle. In this fashion the bowl serves the same function as the circle. It would be impossible for me to list every single method of how circles are used here in this blog but a couple of more ways include the putting of powders on one's fingers and then touching a person and making a quick circular motion with the fingers as well as drawing circles outside with powders, chalk, or with sticks in the dirt. Circles are often created with either a cross or an "x" in them, but this is a topic for another blog.
