Magi were a caste or class of astrologer-magician-priests, i.e. wizards of the ancient Middle Eastern, Eastern, and Far Eastern world who were associated with the Zoroastrian religion and other Eastern religions, cults, and sects.
Magi were considered to be esteemed learned men of their day and their arts and crafts, though occult in nature, were considered to be the science of the time. The words magus, mage, magic, and magician all stem from the word magi.
