How To Pray Over Items In The Hoodoo

In Hoodoo/Rootwork/Conjure, items are routinely prayed over. The following is meant to give people and especially new practitioners a good idea of how to pray over items.

With regard to praying, one can pray Psalm 23 for all good things or one can pray other Psalms and bible verses. If one prefers, one can pray a prayer from the heart or in one's own words.

How To Pray Over Items

1.) Hold the item up to one's mouth so that one's breath falls upon the item.

2.) Hold the item up to one's heart.

3.) Cross one's hands, right hand over the left hand, to form an "X" and hold it over the item.

4.) If the item is small enough, place it in one's palms and cross one's hands. Example: Place a mojo bag in one's left palm. Place one's right hand over it so that it forms an "X".

5.) If praying over offertory candles, enfold one's hands over the candle in a "prayer" fashion and pray over it.

6.) Make the sign of the "X" with one's right first two fingers a total of three times.. (Some say first three fingers, but I was taught first two fingers.) This is normally done while praying "In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Amen". So it would go, "...In the name of the Father (X), the Son (X), and the Holy Spirit (X), Amen."
