Chief Esuleke reflects on his worship of the Yoruba spirit called Esu(Eshu or Ellegua), who some equate with the biblical Satan. Eshu is a trickster and is indeed sometimes equated with Satan but Eshu is far different that embodiment of evil that most Christians fear. Eshu is the spirit of chaos, of chance, of crossroads, doors, and gates, and can be just as good and helpful as he can be cruel.
Yes, I worship Esu, but I’m not satanic
On a personal note, Eshu is perhaps my favorite form of the Trickster.
